In an effort to supplement the GATE instruction that is integrated in everyday classes, we will offer
several enrichment opportunities


Piedmont GATE Program
Saturday Field Trip to    

    2 Ways to go:
  1. Meet at Piedmont at 11:45 A. M. and take VTA to The Tech, led by Mr.Curry.                 We will leave the Tech at 4:30PM and return to Piedmont at 5:30PM                   
  2. Meet at The Tech (parent drive) at 12:50PM and pick up your child at 4:20PM

There is no admission fee for school groups at The Tech.
We MUST have a permission slip turned in by January 16th, to confirm our group.

Parents are needed to chaperone.  This is limited to the first 30 students who respond.

The Italian Club is a weekly after school class which studies the Italian language and culture.

Video Production Basics


Learn how to plan and make a digital video. 

Students will learn basics in doing a simple documentary video, with the goal of making a video for our 6th grade feeder schools about Piedmont.

 Open: Grades 6-8 (Max 18)—Priority given to 6th graders but others may sign-up on a space available basis.

Dates: Wednesdays Oct 24 / Nov 7. 14, 28/ Dec 5, 12, 19    2:30-3:30PM    Independent work will continue in Jan-Feb as part of the Wed and Friday MultiMediaMania Session (See below)

Badminton

Students will learn about and play the sport of badminton.

Go Green! Eco-Club

Students will develop leadership skills in creating environmental awareness and in planning and carrying out recycling and composting projects in cooperative groups.

Robotics







Learn the basics in creating commands for Robots and then commanding the robots!

Multi Media Mania

Students who are interested in learning technology can do stellar projects for their regular classes, using the internet for research and in creating multimedia projects such as content rich websites and Power Point Presentations.  Students will also be encouraged to enter a project in the California Media and Multi-Media Festival will get help creating and finishing their projects. http://www.mediafestival.org/
Students will also get computer access time to work on the projects.

Educational Academic Competitionsopen to all students, with the expectation that many GATE students will advance.
 Scripps National Spelling Bee,<www.spellingbee.com> is the renowned spelling
competition, sponsored locally by the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our school-wide Bee will be on January 23rd. 2:45 - 4:00 PM in the Library or Room 20.
Language Arts teachers were encouraged to give class wide written tests during December
 and January and to then forward the names of the top spellers to be included in the
2nd Annual Piedmont Middle Spelling Bee.
Our school-wide Spelling Bee champion will then compete in the SF Bay Area written
Spelling Bee.
